HOW TO MEASURE FOR STANDARD METAL AND WOOD BLINDS

NOTE: Use only a steel tape to do all measurements.

Inside Mount Installation

Use a steel tape measure

Measure Blinds for Inside Mount

To find width:

Measure exact distance to the nearest 1/8" between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest width. Do not make any width deductions.

To find height:

Measure exact distance to the nearest 1/8" from inside surface at top of window to sill at the left, middle and right and use the longest length. If you prefer blind not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure length to point where blind is to reach.

Outside Mount Installation

Use a steel tape measure

Measure Blinds for Outside Mount

To find width:

Measure exact distance to the nearest 1/8" between the outermost points where the blind is to be placed. For optimum light control, this measurement should extend 3/4" beyond the window opening on each side (or 1-1/2" for the entire width).

To find height:

Measure exact distance to the nearest 1/8" from where top of blind or shade will be located to top of sill. If there is no sill or if blind is to overlap window frame, measure to point blind is to reach.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR VERTICAL BLINDS

Measuring Outside Mounts With'out' Molding

Use a steel tape measure

Measure Without Molding

To find width:

Measure width of window opening and add 6 inches. This allows for 3 inches of overlap on each side.

To find height:

Measure length of window opening and add 4 inches. This allows for 2 inches above and below the window opening. You may make the blind longer if so desired.

Measuring Outside Mounts With Molding

Use a steel tape measure

Outside Mount

To find width:

Measure width from the outside of the molding on left to the outside of the molding on the right and add 4 inches.

To find height:

Measure length from the top of the molding to the bottom of the sill and add 4 inches. This will ensure that the blind will overlap the moldings by 2 inches and be mounted on a flat surface. You may make the blind longer if so desired.

MEASURING DOORS

NOTE: Inside mounts are the same as for windows above.

Measuring Outside Mounts With'out' Molding

To find width:

Measure width of door and add 6 inches. This allows for 3 inches of overlap on each side.

To find height:

Measure from the floor to the top of the door and add 2 inches to the measurement.

Measuring Outside Mounts With Molding

To find width:

Measure from the outside of the left molding to the outside of the right molding and add 4 inches to the measurement. This ensures the blind will overlap the moldings by 2 inches.

To find height:

Measure from the floor to the top of the molding and add 2 inches. This ensures that the blind will be mounted to a flat surface.

PLEASE NOTE:
You will be raising your blind 3/4 inch when mounting a blind in front of a door. The valance goes above that! Make sure you have a few extra inches for clearance.
